Manga

Moving on from my graphic novels post earlier in the year, I am now looking for some manga and other graphic novels to start a new collection for students in our arts library. This time the focus is more on the art/ drawing than story.

I would appreciate any suggestions for manga suitable for 16-18 year olds and any graphic novels or names of artists that might be suitable.

I am putting together a Graphic Novel collection for the college library and while I already have a few and some on order, I need to order some more.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations and reasons why?

Nevenka has kindly offered to compile any comments and stories people have of Mike. As she doesn't have a LJ or a large list of people that knew him shes asked if people could email them to her.

---------------------------------------------------------
I mentioned on the OOC flambard board but will also do so here.

I am asking people if they have any nice memories.stories etc of mike to email them
to me and I will compile them and put them together so it can be given to his family
so they can see he was kindly thought of by so many people. You can sign your email
or leave it blank I do not mind.

I hope to give the compilation to someone who can get it to his family.

If anyone thinks this is a bad idea let me know and I will abandon the idea. The
reason I thought of this is due to the help such a book gave to the family of a
friend that was lost a year ago.

My email is nevenka80@yahoo.co.uk to send message to. Heading Mike

If you can pass this onto others it would be greatly appreciated. I will collect for
August and them compile in September.

This year the Unicorns faction has kindly organised me and Nic a birthday party.

http://unicorns.org.uk/docs/usp08.doc

Seriously, we are going to go along and monster the unicorns event and we'd like all the people who might consider coming along to ours for a birthday party to come along and interact with the Unicorns as well. Having monstered a unicorns event earlier this year we'd like you all to have as much fun as we did.

We all have things about our friends that make us slightly envious. Not in a bad way, but in a 'Wow! I wish I had that person's hair/eyes/money/relationship/toenails/whatever.'

So tell me what about me makes you envy me. . . then post this in your LJ and see what makes me envious of you.

Spring, Rain (skelneth)
((a bit of ancient history here))

The rain had held off, but that didn’t stop the dampness in the earth from rising in an icy fog after dusk. Brisane’s ritual circle had moved again—and this time it was situated where they could be attacked from all sides. Great, thought Eclipse, just what we need. Flanking opportunities and an uppity ritual circle. And of course a death knight. Perfect for a party in March.

She held her wits in readiness for what seemed like hours. And then, without a sound, out of the mists came the first dozen wraiths, eyes burning red with malice and greed.

After leaving nic at home for the day we finally have a conservatory roof with no holes in and a working gas fire. The roofing people should be turning up this Saturday to sort out the tiles.

Had lots of fun at Ceremonies although discovered that I'm starting to not talk to people I don't know, which is bad.

Next we have the Millen and the wolves events on the same weekend.

Having been to the meeting last night, and having made our presence known and a few of our opionions and plans for the year, we were able to take a tour around Bells Farm and have a look at what remains of the damage.

It seems that the damage to the main house was mostly water damage and some rather chared beams up in the roof, the arson attack had been at the back in the old scafolded area. The tarps there had caught fire and it had then burnt across the unused parts before it had started to burn through into the main house.

Down stairs had been refloored and replastered, waiting on the wall heaters to be fixed, and a final health and safety check.

Upstairs at first glance looked ok but still in need of a new carpet, and heaters are ok unlike down stairs, but there is basically a hole in the celling running the length of the back hall. The attic has got some beam damage, and no floor under the eaves, it looked worse but its an area that is least likely to be used by the general public.

Slightly worried that the living history bloke looks a lot like I expect Chris Hill to in 20 years or so
All in all, downstairs should be available again fairly soon and upstairs as soon as they can. One of the main problems in doing the renovations is waiting on the insurance money as between the council and Bell's Farm they have very little spare money.

We left the meeting to have a froth and plot in MacDonalds as to the possibility of a fund raising event and by the time we got home, we'd got a basic outline of a free form 1 night event, based period wise on 14-16th century with an East meets West intrege sort of theme to be run a Bell's farm later in the year.(hopefully)

Edit:

[livejournal.com profile] recycledgoth has also done a write up of the meeting on her journal, and summed it all up a lot more clearly than me.

Bell's Farm

Jan. 8th, 2007 07:38 pm
skelneth: (Default)
I know that Steve who runs Bell's Farm has sent an email out that has gone to some of local people on my friends list but he popped round and had a chat this evening, as he failed to talk to Nic on the phone.

I'm now looking to get a group together to go to the Bells Farm Community Assn's meeting on Wed at 7.30 pm as they have a group which has insinuated itself into the centre over the last few years who are unfriendly to the use of the site for any role play events and generally causing trouble, Steve was hoping that Nic and I would go and provide some friendly faces and our point of view on roleplaying.

I would be grateful if anyone who is local could spare the time to come along. I know its a little short on notice, but Bell's Farm have never been anything but helpful and friendly toward us and I feel that we should go and offer our help to them.

Its has also been pointed out to my shock we've been doing events there in one form or another there for the last 10 years.

Having got my results last week (one good, one not so good), I was pleasantly suprised to find this week when i went to find the resit details, that I now don't have to retake an exam as they had got my marks wrong and I have actually passed both modules rather than just the one.

So I have put the books back away and I no longer have to worry about having an exam on the thurday night before the Gathering.

We am win!

I had a great weekend and managed to come out of it alive with most, if not all of my objectives achieved. I managed to cause Amanda lots of ic trauma, mostly unintentionally i might add, and had some great roleplaying moments with her, Maz and Dave G.

I managed to uphold Nic's opinion of my sneakiness, thanks to those people that egged me on and distracted the right people at the right times. That was probably my best moment, followed closely behind by getting blood and vengence for yollos death and surviving the 4 harms and a decay due to a sanctuary scroll and a large amount of healers.

I luckily only had a mild case of overheating on the saturday afternoon, which food, painkillers and a cool half hour lying down was able to clear up. Furs in summer are never a good idea.

This has been a campaign that i have been poking more or less from the beginning and i am very pleased to have seen it all the way through and survived out the other side.
skelneth: (Default)
Busy busy busy, seems to have summed up my life for the last couple of months.

University is now finished for the summer, providing i've managed to do ok in my exams, i am not expecting to do that well having had a lack of time for revision.
if i go back for semester 2 will depend on what is happening on the job front.

Had a good and manic HG, Not sure exactly what i did of note and i seemed to lose a day, but it was fun having 3 more people as part of the company to do stuff with and I am slowly being kicked back into being proactive again.

I am actually looking forward to this year. Very sorry to lose Twilight as she was so much fun (we had scones in her memory)and glad to regain EJ as he's someone i can cause trouble with when no one else is looking.

Actually took part in a couple of games (or turned up for one and took part in another due to a no show team, would have taken part in the 3rd, but sometimes getting a cross the marketplace can be difficult) for the first time since the games started.
